BMR STB Rubbing on hood...

After a 100 miles or so since fitting this, it appears the top of the center plate of the strut tower brace is rubbing the hood. Not very hard but it's rubbing.

Anyone suggest the best way of sorting this out? Anyone with similar stories?

Re: BMR STB Rubbing on hood...

do you have poly motor mounts?

only way to really fix it is to find where in the hood its rubbing and grind it a little for clearance

Thanks for the response. No poly motor mounts.

Is grinding the hood really the best solution?

how else would you do it? you cant lower the mounts for the STB, you cant lower the center section of the stb, and you cant raise the hood. So you either grind the powdercoated STB down for clearance, or you grind away at the ribbing under the hood where its rubbing. Or smash the center of the STB with a huge hammer until it bends and makes the needed clearance, but thats just a stupid idea.

Can you take a closeup ic of were you mounted the bar on the strut towers? If its too far forward it will rub the hood alittle.

What do the motor mounts have to do with the STB and the hood clearance?

Re: BMR STB Rubbing on hood...

I would say, judging from your pics, the bar should be back a tad. I believe the bar being that much forward, and the downward slope of your hood, is the problem.

Looks kind of close to the master cylinder though.

Thanks Brutal. Think the Master Cyl just looks closer due to the picture.

Re: BMR STB Rubbing on hood...

I have the same brace in my bird and its doing the same thing. I never cared enough to mess with it, but if I was set on correcting it, then I would take a rag or towel and drape it over the BMR logo, get a big hammer.....

Its crude, and probably dangerous since you could miss and nail the intake, but its only gotta bend down a little bit. If you wanna play it safe, remove it, get a jack or a press, and bend it just a little.

I know its Crude, but, its an idea.

fabrication that'll work shouldn't have to hit it too hard to move it alittle

Reinstall the hood insulation and that should prevent the metal to metal contact. My problem was I had to shim the mounting points to clear the top of the intake and yes it hit my insulation on the hood. But there is more clearance on a Camaro.
