rear frame section, fit a 4th gen?

Ok, so I found this 4th gen on craigslist for $600, I'm going to try to get, it has a cracked frame, but that aside I'd still buy it just for the 3.4 block out of it for my 85 hybrid build, and either try to part it out or fix it, so I'm wondering if a 3rd gen rear frame section would interchange with it? Because I might try to trade my DD for it, but then I would need a running car in a hurry, I'm thinking if the frame section will interchange I could swap that over into it and voila. Then have a 4th gen and a 3rd gen :P Save up for a v8 swap and rear frame for the 3rd gen, get it running, then do hybrid build on the 4th gen or something, at any rate the price is good...even if I take the engine the rest of the car looks in good shape, I could probably get my money back on parting out the rest of it...

There is no frame. All the F-bodies are unibody sheetmetal design. You'd hafta a BIG job ahead of you, trying to cut a sheetmetal subframe & put in another same generation car, much less adapting it to another generation car.

That being said, I'd say they aren't THAT different, since the rear seats, gas tank, rear axle....All interchange easily, so all the mounts & contours are pretty similar.

But I still wouldn't attempt unless you are an EXPERT at aligning things 110% up PERFECTLY

I'm not talking aobut the sheetmetal body pieces in the middle, but the 2 pieces of frame at rear and front that bolt to the midsection.

There are no pieces of frame that bolt to anything anywhere on the car. The subframes are welded to the floor.

I'd have to check, to be sure, but aren't there pretty much 2 rails at each end, that more or less hinge to the rest of the car to allow for suspension travel up and down movement? Because I seem to remember seeing that last I was down there...cause I usually put the jack stands pretty close to that bolt. I may be wrong, and its been a while, but I think I'm right..

No clue what your referring to. But there are no frame pieces that unbolt in the rear.

Maybe its not technically a frame part then..I honestly don't really know without looking under it which I can't do right now =/ But I'm 90% sure there is something like that on there...

Re: rear frame section, fit a 4th gen?

There are the 2 lower control arms (trailing arms), which are part of the suspension & the long, triangular torque arm in the very middle, by the driveshaft. All interchangeable.

Sorta. There are 2 different torque arms & the only difference between them is basically the bushing, which is interchangeable between the 2.

But I can't imagine the lower control arms or the torque arm to crack. Bend yes.....Crack? They'd be bent too, if they were cracked.

The LCA is probably what I mean, kind of looks like an I-beam yeah? And bolts to a bracket at?

Re: rear frame section, fit a 4th gen?

Just saw the other post. Yes, those are the lower control arms & are direct swaps between a 3rd & 4th gen.

Re: rear frame section, fit a 4th gen?

Ok, that clears things up good :P Pardon my lack of knowledge on the matter, otherwise I would've known they were LCAs,lol, but hey thats why I'm posting :P
I'm not even sure that's where the damage is or not, but I'm hoping it is since that wouldn't be a big deal.

Here's the post, that's what it sounds like it is to me...

Re: rear frame section, fit a 4th gen?

That ad sounds like that it IS the sheetmetal subframe that is cracked. If it is very minor, just reweld it & reinforce it as needed.
