Air shocks etc...

Ok, so I realize that air shocks have been discussed before, but I searched, and couldn't really find a decent answer for my question. I've got 295/50/15 tires, with rims that are 10" wide, with 5.5" of backspacing, so they stick IN 2 inches more than stock, and set OUT 1 inch more than stock, they look fine, but whenever I have people in the backseat, I bottom out (I think it's hitting the fender lips, but it might be the inside wall too). I'm also planning on hauling a utility trailer across the country soon, to TOO heavily loaded, but several hundred pounds, and I want to pull an R/V with it in the near future as well (ultra light tent trailer), I have the power and all (400SBC... ) but I need to deal with my suspension, the R/V thing might not be a problem, since I will be using an "easy lift system" to distribute the weight on my frame, but the utility trailer is a problem.

I basically just want to make a new bumpstop for all intents and purposes. I mean, just set the MAXIMUM travel a half inch above where it rubs right? air shock's and air-suspension bladders don't really seem to me to be the right solution for that, but if not, what?

FYI, I'm installing LCA relocation brackets soon (I CAN'T keep the stupid thing on the pavement, just spins and spins and spins...) and takeoff performance for me is VITAL (duh) so I don't want to do anything to mess it up even further. Thanks Guys!!!!

Re: Air shocks etc...

i would get new springs, the moog iroc replacements will stiffen up the rear and raise it a little, give you a little more room for the tires.

air bags, the bladders that go inside the springs can help too, and are pretty cheap. Air shocks are a horrible idea simply because they place the entire weight of the car on the thin sheetmetal upper shock mount, and eventually will tear the sheetmetal out.

Re: Air shocks etc...

the air bladders only go for around 100 bucks and you can easily be filled and emptied for that lil bit of extra lift and help
