Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question

Can anybody tell by looking? I'm guessing they are.
Also, I havn't really drove the car much and just now realized it has no front or rear sway bars. I have RS parts car with f41 suspension, would adding the sway bars make that big of a difference in handling? How would adding them affect traction?

Re: Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question
They look like modified stock ones to me. Look upside down too
Sway bars will greatly increase the handling of the car. As far as traction goes, it is a common practice to unbolt the front one when at the dragstrip to help weight transfer. Thats atleast what people claim and do. I have not tried it. If you are talking about traction on the street, then that really depends on more things then sway bars. Tires, lcas, posi, etc.

yeah, the are stock, and somebody bolted the in upside down.
I would correct that issue, they will fill up with road dirt and rot out.

Re: Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question
lol ok I will correct that. Would I be better off to go aftermarket or are they strengthened enough? Or is it also a length thing with aftermarket pieces?
I meant straight line traction on the street. I won't be flying through curves or anything but I'd like it to handle decent.
I know about the front sway bar, but I just don't understand why the rear was removed. The guy who had this car before me did so many things that just make no sense. You should see the home made SFC'S...they're horrible. Strong, but horrible.

Yep, that is the old school/poor man's control arm mod. Not the upside down part but the welding the plate on it.
Are the fronts done as well?
Gotta show a pic if the SFCs'

Nah the front hasn't been tampered with. I'll get some pics of the SFC's tomorrow. Here's something I already have a pic of. He cut the center piece out of the front bumper where the grill goes.
EDIT::: I've got black mesh stuck in there but I'm sure you can see the piece is missing.
Also, I'm not the one who did the rattle can job. As you can see he did a great job of covering up the turn signals too. I just cleaned the passenger side earlier, it almost completely covered.

lol Yeah, I just couldn't have cut it up like that.
And like I said before, I know that removing the front sway bar is suppose to increase weight transfer, but what about removing rear? I've never heard of that but maybe I'm just in the dark on that one. Anybody know why he would have done this?

Well if the guy was doing straight line drag racing then there is no need for the sway bar. Might get a little more squat out of it as well.

Re: Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question
those are the ghetto way of beefing the rear LCAs up.. works fine but still not worth it unless u upgrade the bushings to poly or solid aluminum.
removing the rear sway bar is a weight reduction. its not safe and i wouldnt recomend it. other things to consider are rear anti roll bars (again dnt drive it on the street) removing the rear sway bar will increase understeer and u will go into the wall. again disconnecting the front sway bar will increase front end travel but disconnecting it and removing it will increase front end travel and a weight reduction. not sure if there is any other benefits from removing the rear sway bar but i know its not the smartest/safest thing to do lol.
post some pics of the SFC!

Re: Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question
Looks like I'll be pulling sway bars tomorrow. lol
I'll get you guys some SFC pics tomorrow. The car was used for straight line racing only. He had it running 12.30's I believe(not the same engine). I'm not really mad cuz I knew what I was getting it's just that when I bought it, I planned on using it for the same thing. Now I have to get it ready to be my daily driver and I'm having to deal with ghetto drag racing mods. Welded rear for posi, no sway bars, homemade roll cage, no ac/heater, and countless other little things that don't come to mind at the moment.
I can't afford to buy another vehicle(totaled my truck) so this is my only option. Again, I'm not really mad, I love being back in a third gen, I just wish it was a little more practical. lol

Re: Are my LCA's homemade(pics)+Sway bar question
ouch welded spiders? that sucks... thats prob the worst bc u cant reuse anything! not to mention the welds start to break and chip and they float around in the oil and chew everything up. if i were u i would rip the rear apart and throw in a spool or something if u want to keep it like that.... otherwise upgrading to a new posi and rebuilding the rear is gona cost a good bit. spools are not safe on the street esp going around a turn, manly for straight drag racing. basically just replace the insides otherwise it will end up costing more if more things get ruined.
howd it pass tech with the homemade roll bar? post pics of that too lol.
no ac/heater here and i DD mine, thats no big deal, just wear alot of clothes in the winter and no clothes in the summer lol.

I'm used to not having AC and I'm sure I can deal with not having a heater I'm just concerned with defrost. lol
And yeah, the rear concerns me. I'm gonna put-put around in this thing like a grandma. I'm probably just going to find another rear end and just swap the whole thing when I can. I just need it to get me around until I can either buy another dd or straighten this one out.
All together, including the price of the car, I probably havn't even spent $1200. Thank god I had a freshly rebuilt l98 waiting to go in cuz within a week of totaling my truck, I got laid off. So now I've just got to get rolling again no matter how rough it is. lol
