Outer Edge Front Tire Wear

I first posted this on a Vette site, copied and pasted....

On my Vette I have 43K miles, OEM GS-C's and the 255 fronts are worn about 1.5" in
from outside edge. Rest of tires have plenty of tread, but will have to change fronts soon
due to almost no tread in said area.
Suspension has never been touched.
30 psi. Tire cannot be rotated on 1995.

My 1986 Z28 has over 200K and has gone thru 4 sets of tires approximately every 50K.
Same problem here (1.5" worn from outside, rest of tire with much tread left). This car
you can rotate in X pattern, so the tires wear out at the same time. Car has never had
an alignment. Shocks were changed at 130K. Been doing this since day one.

I had a 1993 Z28 before the Vette. Change tires (245 GS-C's) at 41K, same problem.

What can I do to change this?
Adjust camber/caster?
Add more air?

Is this a coincidence with three cars doing the same?

Could it be my driving habits?

Thanks!

Hard cornering will wear down the outer edges on the fronts as well as not enough negative camber. I'd run more like 35 rather then 30 psi too. It will help you keep off the sidewalls more under heavy cornering.

It's a combination of your driving habits and the alignment. Your alignment needs to be set according to your driving habits(not stock). Or, maybe your alignment is just not correct. I would align it every set of tires, especially if they are wearing uneven.

All f-bodies wear this area of the tire. As the other guys pointed out, it depends on how serious the wear is- and yours sounds serious. I always get an alignment done when I replace my front tires. The current set's lasted almost 2 years! (I can't rotate my tires, different size on the back.)
