Need sub-frame connectors on convertible?

Would it make sense to put after-market subframe connectors on a 1992 firebird convertible? I understand they already install some stiffeners to the body when they lop off the top of the car to make it a convertible. Would subframe connectors be overkill?

If your response is "it depends what you want," I want to minimize rattles and minimize body flexing in normal everyday driving. I just bought the car and intend it as an everyday summer driver. I don't drive intend to drive it hard at all.

According to the Build Codes in the glove box (decoded thanks to this excellent website), my car came from the factory with "soft ride suspension" whatever that is.

i wouldn't worry about it if you're just going ot drive it and not abuse it or race it.

I put tubular Alstons on my Z. It really stiffened the body up on it. I think it was one of the best things one could ever do to a conv.

Please do not misguided..........you NEED sub frame connectors. You will notice the difference in everyday driving..eventhough you are just driving it in Summer. I have a 1990 Camaro Convertible. This is the first thing you should get for the car. Then get a strut brace. The convertibles need all the bracing you can give them.

Thanks

I agree with everyone on this. You do not NEED subframe connectors but they help a lot. I have subframe connectors and a strut tower brace on my convertible and it took the “slinky factor” out of the car.

I also have the Alston SFC's and the Eddelbrock 3-point STB (which I had modified to a 4-point). I recommend the SFC to everyone that has a convertible. You have to understand, these cars were not originally designed to be a convertible. The formed sheet metal reinforcement that runs along the outer rail is not sufficient. They need all the structural reinforcements you can throw at them. I only wish I had found out about SFC's much longer ago. BTW, sadly there are only 2 SFC's I am aware of that work for our convertibles, (Alston's and Kenny Brownes). Weld in a set of SFC's and enjoy the improvment. Good luck, Lon.
