Will lowering my car affect my take-off when i drag race?

I'm thinking about lowering my car with a set of lowering springs,I don't want to much of a drop (1 1/2 to 2 inches all around),And i was wondering if this would change the way the car leaves the line when it's drag raced. Will lowering springs help my take-off or hurt it?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the lowering of the car will have its performance enhancements mostly in the cornering (it will also look better, of course). However, new springs whether they lower the car or not, should help your launch on the strip.

If you lower it far enough, you can screw-up the rear suspension geometry. After I lowered mine, my 82 developed a severe wheel hop problem. LCA relocation brackets fixed the wheel hop.

Here is my brief technical explanation

Strait line acceleration will suffer if you lower your car. Lowering the car affects more than just the geometry of the suspension. Lowering the car also effects its center of gravity, which is going to effect weight transfer. When cornering, ideally it is best to minimize weight transfer to keep the load on each tire as close as possible. But when drag racing in a rear wheel drive car, you want as much weight transfer as possible to put the maximum amount of weight on the rear tires.

Look at how a serious drag car's front end rises off the ground. The center of gravity is being raised, more weight is being transferred to the rear wheels, and the car gets more traction and therfore accelerates faster.
