Drums dragging - repost
Drums dragging - repost
I just replaced my drum brake pads today, and had the drums resurfaced. When i was putting the drum back on (over the new brake pads) I noticed it was REALLY difficult to squeak it on over the brakes (driver's side only), yet I managed to do it. When I drive i hear that side dragging, and the parking brake is not really any tighter (i usually notice this when i put on new drum brake pads). Any ideas on why the drum wouldnt fit easily, and what I can do to remedy this problem? Thanks guys...

did you remove the adjustment made by the self adjuster? return the self adjuster to a shorter position. e brake cable not been tightened? need new springs and related hardwear?

I put the self-adjuster all the way to the shortest length, and the springs have still retained their "springiness" as far as i can tell, although they are original. I havent adjusted the brake cable, but its looser than before. I would have expected it to be tight... any suggestions?

ede you were absolutely right! I jacked up the car and checked the drum setup... the star wheel had about 5 turns left in it. After that, the brakes were sweet. However, they seemed a little glazed from the test drive i did, so i filed off the glaze... now they're like brand new.
Thanks for the tip!
