Does Coil Position Or Indexing Matter?
Ok, I pulled my stock front coil springs out and cut a little more than a 1/2 coil off. When it came time to putting them back in, I struggled with it a lot. (Seems to be the norm for a lot of people here) I even tried the Autozone spring compressor, but I finally gave up on that POS.
I tried installing the cut springs with the tapered end on the bottom (in the a-arm pocket) but I couldn't get it to work. So, I flipped the spring over and stuck the tapered end up into the hole. After that I was able to get the a-arm jacked up enough to pry the cut end into the pocket.
Something I didn't do though was point the cut part of the spring towards any specific direction after I got it into the pocket. The reason I'm asking about indexing is because.....once I finished the job, it didn't lower my frontend not even a little bit. (I even left the isolators out too)
So, would not indexing the spring cause it to leave my frontend at the same ride height? Or did it not come down because the tapered end of the spring needs to be on the bottom? Or could it be both???
**EDIT** Ok, I found the thread I wasn't able to find earlier. I now realize I have the spring in the correct "Up & Down" position, now I just need to index it to the right position. If it doesn't bring it down any lower, I'll just have to cut a little more off.

IIRC, when I replace my OE springs with Moogs, there was a dab of white paint indicating the top of the spring. Of course, indexing is a must.

Re: Does Coil Position Or Indexing Matter?
The problem is, I don't have those same two holes that are real close together in my a-arm. I simply have 4 holes that are in a cross pattern sort of like a plus sign. **EDIT** I now realize that they are suppose to be pointed to the back of the a-arm closest to the motor. Mine are NOT, they point towards the back of the car. So, I guess I just need to loosen the a-arm and turn the springs a 1/4 of a turn. I hope that's enough to lower the frontend down some.

Check the third pic in post #20 of the following post for the drain holes (the two close together at the top:

That's why I made the **EDIT** at the end of my last post. After realizing where they went, I stated that mine were pointed towards the back of the car and not towards the motor where they should be. As soon as I have some free time this week I'll go ahead and reposition the springs.

I assume you did, at minimum, roll the car back a forth a time or two. I believe the top of the spring is flat, isn't it?
