WOOHOO!! I got my new shocks/struts today, now I have a few questions

Well, they finally came. I ordered them from the tirerack.com website last tuesday. tirerack was the cheapest place I could find. 162 bucks shipped for GR-2 front struts and Gas-a-just rears. When I first looked at them I noticed that one of the struts was fully extended and made a hole in the box. Is it bad if they ship extended like that? All the other ones had a strap holding them in. Another thing, should I be able to compress them by hand? The one that was extended I took in my hands and could compress it quite easily, but after a few times it got really hard so I guess they just needed to be worked in. Any things I should do before I put them in?

I don't like the sound of that. The strap should not have broken off, that is probably due to rough handling by the shipping company. They may have banged it around too much. They should be hard to compress all the time. If i were you, I would request a replacement for that one.

Did yours come FedEx? Mine did and they seemed to handle my tires, shocks, and struts fine. Did you out them on yourself? I had a hell of a time getting the old ones to even loosen, so I had someone else do it. I got overcharged but not much I can do about that now.

what kind of damage could have been done by having it extended? The shaft and everything look fine and it is hard to compress now.

If the strap is missing, i'm wondering if it was a return that they sent you. I used to have those struts. If you place them upside down and compress them a few times, they will become easy to compress. Put them upright and they will be easy for the first few times. SOunds like someone may have been fiddling with it before you got it.

the strap was there, it just wasn't holding the strut in. It looked like it had been bumped during shipping.
