lowering springs

I'm wanting to put some springs on my firebird that will lower it. I have read in two different magazines, that you have to trim the back springs. But I can't find any information why I have to trim the back springs?

I put Eibach drop springs on my 95 Z28. The kit comes with all 4. No cutting required. It handled & drove as good or better with the Eibachs.

i have a set of sprint lowering coils and i have never had to cut anything. just go with a set that includes all 4 coils. if you are interested, it is a 1.75 front drop, and a 1.50 in the back. gives it that aggressive stance.
