Trying to get rid of ugly PS bracket 83Z...

Any of you with a 82-86 F body get rid of your AC compressor and end up having to reuse the ugly stock bracket because you discovered it also supports your Power Steering pump?

I'm talking about the ugly one the bolts onto the driver's side header. I ended up having to use spacers and all kinds of rigged up crap after I got rid of my AC compressor so my PS pump would be in alignment.

Is there a remedy for this like some type of aftermarket bracket? I've tried two so far and neither worked. I discovered the reason they didn't work is because these F bods have a weird "P" series metric power steering pump on them, and most afermarket brackets don't line up properly. Is there one that works out there??

PS - I ordered one I "think" might work - it's a March PS bracket for 78+ SBC part # 20165.....and it's a major rip off....Will it work??

Find a drivers side serp bracket with pump and alt. Next swap a V-belt pulley onto both

All done

I got a zoops kit from summit, works great, just a pain to get it aligned properly.

Re: Trying to get rid of ugly PS bracket 83Z...

I just installed the March 20165 and it works great - takes some tweaking with washers, but worked well. BTW I'm no longer TBI or serp setup, I swapped my alt to pass side like your car, and I have no A/C - so it should work well for you. I know it's expensive, but I wasted $40 on an ebay look-a-like and it didn't work at all, so the March $$ is well spent.

I got my March brackets in the mail yesterday. I originally had AC and PS on the drivers side, and the Alt and air pump on the pass side. The 20165 March bracket worked!! And JUST LIKE YOU....I fell for the same brackets on Ebay for 40 bucks.. They didn't mention that those brackets only fit PS pumps with a keyed pulley pre-'79. I'll let everyone know what those brackets fit when I resell them....at a loss of course..

I had no issue with the ebay $40 kits. Tho, I had to grind down a lil bit of the PS pump to get it to fit right, after than, no issue.

Why not just pull the bracket off a V-belt system that wasnt setup for AC and use that?

Wow...I'd love to see how a PS pump can be ground down w/o it ending up in a MAJOR jury-rig!! The brackets in the 40 dollar kits aren't made for the metric pumps and don't come close to aligning with them....and IF you manage to get the bracket to fit on the PS pump, it then will NOT fit on the water pump....and you'd have virtually NO adjustment...post a pic..I'm real curious...

Why not just pull the bracket off a V-belt system that wasnt setup for AC and use that?
That'd a good idea Racing Geek...but have you been to all the local junkyards lately? I found NOT ONE thirdgen Camaro much less any 82-85's. Not even any other 82-85 models were there...I USED to go to ther boneyards about 5 years ago pretty frequently and see no less than 6 Thirdgens in the yards...those days are gone. Besides, the bracket I have looks 10 times better than any stock bracket. I put all chrome pulleys on it too!! I'll have to post a pic...if it runs as good as it looks, I'll be set.

Really man? Cause you can't even see the small *** part where I ground it down cause the bracket over lies it. About it NOT fitting the water pump, someone needs to tell my Z to start spitting belts cause I've had it on there for over a year and no issues. LOL
