will 4th gen struts and shocks fit a 3rd gen?

I can get a set of 4th gen shocks and struts from a friend that have about 20 miles on them (bought the car new and is replacing all the suspention with after market stuff). I need to know if they will fit my 82 Z28 because the ones on the car are shot.

------------------
82 Z28 with 350.motor has .030 forged flat top pistions other wise stock bottom end, Summit 214/224 cam with 1.6 Harland Sharp roller rockers, stock 882 heads for now (will be getting a set of the 23 degree Trick Flows this summer), Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 Vacuum secondary, Th350 with 2200 converter, stock 3.23 geared rearend for now (getting 9" later on), Headman shorty headers, custom 2.5" into 3.5" Y pipe into M.A.C. offroad pipe and M.A.C. cat back system. So far car has only been to the track twice and is having sever traction problems but is running 60'-2.34 1/8 mile-9.2 @ 79 MPH.

Rear Shocks maybe, front shocks I doubt. I'm not very familiar with 4th gens. I would look them over pretty closely, measure the dimensions and compare. I remember an article in one of the mags about changing struts on a 4th gen and it looked alot different. Think about it, if everyone could run 4th gen struts on their 3rd gens, then they could also run 4th gen spindles and brakes. If that could be done, this board would be ringing off the phone lines about it and it isn't.

4th gens don't even have a MacPherson Strut suspension w/recirculating ball steering in the front, they have a more traditional short/long arm suspension, with shocks and power rack & pinion. Almost nothing in the front will interchange (sway bar bushings, maybe).

The rear suspensions of the third and fourth gens are almost identical. The only difference I'm aware of is the fourth gen rear is wider.
