HELP! Rear Brake Calipers
I just bought my 1990 Formula 350, and i need to do rear brakes on it. i know the rear calipers have a screw-in piston for the E-Brake to work. How do i push this kind of piston back into its bore? As far as I know, you can't just use a C-Clamp and push it in. Any help would be appreciated ASAP!

You should have the aluminum rear calipers if the car is a 90. In 89 they got the 11.65" rotors and PBR aluminum calipers. So either you have the new ones and you should be able to push the caliper in a bit, or you dont really have a 90, or someone swapped the rears and or brake setup. Sorry though I dont know how to help you.

One my moms caprice, I had to buy a tool that goes on the end of a ratchet. Its a box with tabs on all 6 sides. Each side is for a diffrent application. I just had to push and turn. Hope this helps.

I didn't need that tool, but I have heard that some cars need it, I don't know what years or anything. But anyway, if you don't need that tool it is really easy to do the rear brakes.

Hey, 90Form350, unless your calipers are in really bad shape, you should be able to use the C-clamp. I know I can, as long as I'm
"gentle"...(leave the monkey in the tool box for another project ). Just take care in the process. Clamp down SLOWLY, and work the piston back into the caliper!

Well, he has different calipers, 3rdGem. But yeah, my Haynes book shows a c-clamp being used for the 82-88 rear pistons. They stress that the clamp should go to the "side" of the center bolt of the piston, not on top of it.
