8 Point Cage

Has any body installed an 8 point cage? how tight do they fit to the ceiling? I have a bad neck, ingress and egress is a major issue for me.

they fit as tight as you make it fit, or the shop that installs it makes it fit.

for the purpose of NHRA rules and for driver safety we usually place the top of the main hoop around 1/2" from the headliner.. basically your head with a helmit on may not be higher then the main hoop.. I hope this helped you

Thanks,
My car is a T top car and I want to tighten her up. When I say 8 points, I mean a full cage without the door bars. I'm cooking up plan to tie the cage into my SFC's by installing U bolts that go around the bars of the SFC and up thru the floor and the 6x6" base plates of the 4 main points of the cage. I would shim the gap between the SFC and the floor at those points. When I tighten up the bolts, it will all be sandwiched together. This would truss the whole thing. Oughta be hell for stout and not that hard to do.

I'm more into the Pro Touring thing so NHRA specs aren't that important, although I do want to do it right.

Mike

I welded in the rest of the cage this week in my 92, it definitely stiffens up the car. I dont have sfc's on it and dont believe it'll be needed with the cage construction. sure added a lot of weight to the car tho.
