Has anybody every heard of a 1 1/2 inch front sway bar(38mm)? I measured the bar over and over with a measuring caliper and it always comes to 1 1/2 inch. I've even measured different parts of the bar and they're always 1.5 inch (comes out to 38mm!). I know there is going to be somebody out there that insists that my bar is 36mm, but no it's not! I even pulled out the mounts and measured the diameter and it's 1 1/2. The reason this is such a big deal is that I am going to need a need swaybar mount and nothing is that big. Just for reference, my back bar is exactly 1 inch or 25mm. My car is a 1989 IROC Convertible.
Also there was some other guy that had the same problem as me. I think his name was ROCHEAD.

Maybe it's been painted or has a good coat of rust on it. Use some emery cloth or sand paper and sand it to bare metal and re-measure in mm(no conversion). A good spot to measure would be at the bushing(remove the bushing and measure) I don't know of any aftermarket bar that big. What do the end-links look like? What do the bushings look like? Aftermarket bars usually use a solid end-link(nut on top and bottom with no threads showing) with poly bushings, or a solid mount(no bushings). If the endlinks are stock, I'd say it's a stock bar. 36mm hollow.

Hey finally someone with the same bar as me. Actually it measures alittle bit under 11/2 but not by much. Try finding the serial number , its in the middle of the bar, mine reads X189 or XI89. I can't get any response from GM on them either. I can't find anyone with polyurathane bushings that big, so im gonna take the 36mm i have and drill them out. My car is also an 89, but hard top and has the 350.

I know this is a long dead topic, but I too have the 38mm bar on my car and performance suspension here in town does not have a bushing big enough. Anyone know where to get one at this point? (Aside from factory).

For as long as I have been on boards the largest I have ever seen was a 36MM. Only place I know carries those bushings are TDS or Gulf Strand I to thought I had a larger bar under I accually sanded it all down and got the rust and paint off. It was then a true 36 and this came on a 89 Formula 350 Hardtop

Craziness. I'm in AZ, so rust really isnt a problem, and I did measure the bar right at the bushing mount, so I dont think there would be enough paint there to throw off the measurements 2mm, but I suppose anything is possible.
I can use the stock bushings for the time being and sand it down later and see what I can figure out.
The car is an 89 IROC that had the 350.

My X189 is a 36 mm hollow bar, it measures 36.01mm and 36.03mm in a different place. If it has a serial number on it, it is not 38mm.
