Drum to disc proportioning valve?

Here's the question,I put a 4th gen rear with discs in a few months ago,and haven't put a new propotioning valve in yet.I don't want to use an adjustable one. Will a 1LE proportioning valve help me out any.The discs on the rear are huge compared to the front so I will be upgrading to 1LE or Baer in the future, but for now i need better brakes. The front are doing all the work right now and i've been pushing my luck here lately. Thanks for any help guys.

you wouldnt even have to get a 1LE prop valve to get it at least close to what it should be, even if you found an iroc or Z28 with 4-wheel disc it would be closer then you are now.

P.S- Im guessing that you had drums before????

Let me know what you find out, i want to put in a 4th gen rear also

I'd venture to say it has to do with how similar the brake systems were between the late 3rd (specifically 89-92) and 4th gen f-bodies. I searched thru carparts.com and they don't list any prop valves for 93-up f-bodies. They listed AC-Delco #172-2074 and AC-Delco #172-2038 for the 92 Z28, the 2074 looks like it's for rear discs.

Luck would be great if the 93-up's use the same prop valve as 89-92! I say give a few GM dealers a call, and ask for part #'s.

If the 93-up rear discs are larger or more powerful than 89-92 rear discs, you should probably hunt down a 4th gen prop valve. If they're the same size/power/etc, the 3rd gen one would probably do fine.

I was told the prop valve doesn't do any proportioning for 4-wheel-discs. It's just a combination valve, to split the m/c outputs into three, and give the BRAKE pressure warning light a home. If that's the case, then any 4-wheel-disc prop valve that fits your lines would work great.

But if the 93-up rear discs are huge, maybe this would screw something up? These are just guesses here, by the way...

Hey thanks guys, even the guesses help, lol
it did have drums and yes the rotors in the rear are 12"s i believe. The brakes work well enough to slow me down, but the rear aren't doing anything. The only reason i was thinking of the 1LE valve is cause it uses the 12" rotors on 4 corners.I'll look into the 4th gen proportioning valve,i may call thirdgen parts and see what he has available, thanks for the replys........
