Whats wrong?

I recently replaced the rotors, calipers, beraings, and pads on the front of my 90 Camaro. The problem is that when I hit above 45 mph and try to stop the steering wheel pulses to the right and left violently. I did bleed all of the air out of the lines. I did notice that the brake hoses are dry rotted and the rubber skin on the outside is peeling away. Could this be the problem?

You need to go back and take a look at the calipers and pads. Make sure the pads are seated properly in the calipers. If the pedal feels mushy or sluggish then you probably have air in the lines. Look for wear on the pads and make sure it is symetrical and even.

Yipe! Replace those rubber lines ASAP! You don't want them blowing out on the highway!

You can sometimes score a good deal from http://www.carparts.com - search http://www.yahoo.com for "carparts.com coupon", and you can find stuff like "$10 off $50 order", or "$50 off $100 order".

When brake hoses get really deteriorated, they collapse internally. This blocks the flow of brake fluid. So, when you slam on your brakes, the calipers "delay" before moving the brake pads. Then, when you let off your brakes, the calipers "delay" before releasing the brakes.

The usual example is someone that says when they hit their brakes, the car jerks left, and when they let up on the brakes, the car jerks right. This would mean their right front hose has collapsed, since it's delaying the right caliper from activating (car jerks to left) and releasing (car jerks right because the caliper's still grabbing).

Plus, when you do the hoses, you get to bleed the front brakes again- and this will take care of what Colt said. Just don't let the master cylinder run empty during the brake hose swap; if it does, you'll have to bleed the m/c.

I had that problem with my camaro also, But my dash would shake even worse. When you go and buy new rotors sometimes they need to be turned. I went and bought new spindles, bearings, pads and rotors and my car still shaked. Then I took the new rotors off and get them turned and the car did not shake any more. A littl while later I had the bad brake steer but new calipers fixed that problem. This might help, it worked for m car, not saying it is going to work on your car too because it might be something different.

I had a similar problem happen with my car. When i hit the brake, it pulled really hard to one side. I changed the brake lines and it's worked just fine since. I got them from auto zone for about 12 bucks a piece.
