Strut mount install without taking off strut?

Can I just jack the front of the car, take the wheels off and then take the strut mount off and put the new one on? I know I will have to hold the strut so that it doesn't flp around after I take the mount off but will this work or am I over looking something?

Sounds good to me! A problem might present itself if the strut extends up too high, and doesn't let you get the new mount to seat onto the strut tower. If you use an awl to scratch around the base of the current upper strut mount, you could re-install the new one in the exact old position, and save yourself an alignment. (That is, unless your car needs an alignment anyway!)

Make sure you raise the car by the crossmember, not the a-arms.. but sounds like you knew that already

i put on new strut mounts last summer and although your idea sounds good, i dont think it would work but i would also say you can try it and let us know if it works

You might need a jack stand under the control arm. The strut/strut mount stops the spring from extending itself all the way and popping out

I replaced the struts about 3 years ago and the spring stays compressed even after the strut has been removed. For some reason the control arm doesn't lower enough to let the spring pop out. You would need to get a spring compresser to get the spring off these cars.

It was super easy guys. All I had to do was mark the old position jack the car up, take off strut nut and the three holding the mount on and switch it out. It took like 15 minutes per side. It was easier than doing the wonderbar!! Piece of cake.
