Lowering Questions.

Ok here's the deal. I was just wondering if I can do a cheap (ghetto) lowering job on my Iroc until I actually rebuild the suspension and do it the right way.

I dont want to buy anything (dont have any cash). Now this may just be a plain stupid question (feel free to laugh if it is ).

Buut, can't you cut your springs to lower the car? I really know nothing about this. I also wouldn't want to do it if it will adversly affect my handling in some way.

I am just bored and thought I might be able to do that to at least improve the appearance of the car for the time being. I'd only want to lower the car a half inch to an inch tops.

Ok, let me have it.

yes that is true that you can cut your springs. it is not recomeneded. but it will be ok if you only cut a half of a coil. and it will drop your car about 1" or so. its a good mod. i guess.
and no one should flame you for this question. we all have times when we want to do something and dont have any money to do it so..

Use a grinder but make sure you stop and let the spring cool from time to time.(Never use a torch)THe other effect of cutting it would be raising its spring rate,So if you want better cornering this is good but if you want a softer ride then this not for you

Use the grinder to cut it.
If you do use a grinder, do like Daz suggested and don't let the spring get too hot. It'll ruin the spring.
Another way to cut it is with a portable Ban Saw, or with a Sawz-all. Use an apropriate blade in either one, and it'll cut through real easy. Another benifit to using one of these is that it doesn't heat up the spring like a grinder does.
