BAD VIBRATIONS---HELP!
I'm sorta at a loss here, so I need some help. My car is vibrating and I don't know why. I still had the original tires on my car (about 10 years old), so I thought it was the tires. I replaced them and the vibration is still there. The guys at the tire shop said that the wheels weren't bent, either. I've already had an alignment, too. The vibration kinda comes and goes. I don't feel it through the steering wheel, so I don't believe it's in the front wheels. I can feel it more at about 50 mph and it starts shaking somewhat violently at around 75 or 80.
I just got through reading some of the previous posts by people that had bad vibes and it looks like this may be a driveshaft problem...what does everyone think? I was talking to somebody the other day and he basically said "if it turns, it could be a problem". He had a vibration that he couldn't get rid of, but he eventually found out that his engine crankshaft was way out of balance. I read that somebody had a checklist or something for isolating vibrations...could you help me out here? Thanks.

I had an A/C compressor go bad on me (the bearings were shot) that caused a really bad vibration on the highway, especially above 70 mph or so. I took the belt off ('87 with multiple V-belts) and it disappeared.
I had the compressor replaced (converted to R134a at the same time) and that took care of it.
However, I have a vibration of a different kind, not engine-related from what I can tell. I'm pretty sure it's the driveshaft since my tranny and rear end have been totally rebuilt and it's only at 75-85 mph, not below or above those speeds. To see if you have an engine or driveline problem, put your tranny in neutral when you get the vibration and see if it goes away. If it does, it's engine-related. If not, then it's something else (driveshaft, rear end, wheels/tires).

Could be the Harmonic Balancer, or the Drive Shaft.
