Missing Front Wheel Well

Some of you may know im looking to buy my first 3rd gen.
So yesterday i went to see this 84 Camaro for $500.
What a surprise i had when he opened the hood and saw there was no wheel well on the left side.
I also noticed a chain around (what i think is) the top plate...
Heres a picture just so were clear:

As soon as i saw that i thought: I am so walking away from this thing.
But then some people told me the suspension on a Camaro doesnt rest on the top plate or whatever that part is.
They said its an easy fix, just get another wheel well from the junk yard and weld it on.

Im gonna refer to the pros and ask on here: Is this car actually not as bad as i thought? Is it fixable? Is it even drivable? Worth $500?

P.S. i am no car pro but you probably all know by now

Re: Missing Front Wheel Well

There is NO way I would buy that car unless it was for parts. Is it fixable? Yes. Will you be able to drive it right away? I wouldn't. If the rest of the car is mint I would get it but that would be about the only way. I wish you'd have taken a picture of it while you were there.

the strut/strut mount, hold the wheel in position. Without that mount being attached to anything, the suspension and wheel would jam inboard untill it hit the chassis. so the guy put the chain around it to hold it off the chassis. I really hope they were not driving the car like that. the wheel would me bouncing/moving around all over the place. A accident waiting to happen

I would kill for a picture of the car you looked at, it sounds epic. But yes, dont even consider buying it except for parts maybe.

Go back and get a pic

+1 for parts only. The position and alignment of the upper mount is critical. If you'd be able to drive it up on a trailer like that Id be surprised
