brake problem

When I cruise town not driving fast, 35mph speed limit, but it smells like i've been roasting the tires. And when I hit the brakes it swerves to the right a little then corrects itself. I dunno what this is, but i've asked before and never got a solution. I've had 4 different places check brakes. Everything looks almost new they say.

I have been having the exact same problem. I was told that a caliper was sticking or i had a brake line clogged or maybe even collapsed?

But, nobody gave you an answer right? Nobody seem to know what this is. Another thing is it makes the most awful screeching noise sometimes when I hit the brakes.

Looks new and acts like new are two different things, though.

Brake Hose Scenario: You hit the brakes quickly, and the car yanks to the right. Then, you let off the brakes quickly, and the car yanks to the left. This means that your left side is slow to grab, and slow to release- and would probably point to your left brake hose being internally deteriorated & partially clogged. Since your car (eatmydust) is an '86, I'd vote for the brake hoses. My '86 was doing the brake dance back in '98; I replaced the hoses and all was fine. I still have my original '86 calipers.

I'm not sure of the diagnosis of a sticking caliper, someone else could explain that better. I believe a sticking caliper would keep that side's brakes almost "on" all the time... causing a lot of heat, worn down pads, and stink. That screeching noise might be caused by a "grabby" caliper stopping the tire too quickly.

I'd find a better brake shop!

Oh your back brakes could be the problem too.. if one side's not applying but the other is.

I hope it is the hoses. It kinda makes sense. It may not be getting enough brake fluid so it gets hot and maybe thats why it makes the noise and sticks. If it is the hoses, are there more than one kind and if so which is the best. I don't care about price. Also, could the brake master cylinder have anything to do with it? It looks like there is alot of brake fluid in the resivoir and I never have put any in it.
