Shock install ?'s
Do the rear trim panels need to be removed to install new shocks? I have an amp rack sitting behind the seat for my stereo system and the shop guy said I would have to remove it before he would install the shocks. The car is a 85 Trans am. Any info on how to get to the shocks would be great.

yes you will have to remove your amp rack, I know, its sucks, I had to do it too. The upper shock mount is right behing your back seat. you have to move the back seat forward. Then somehow find a way to pull the carpet back. (note: this is the hardest part of changing shocks) After that, take the nut loose. Then move under your car and remove the lower bolt. take shock out, and then put the new one in. and reverse the procedure. Getting a Chiltons manual will really help, as they have pictures and torque specs.

Look down at the hump once you folded the seat down. See how it's actually a flap? Just lift that whole thing up and there's the upper shock mounts (under two foam covers).
If the rack is flush with the forward wall of the floorpan, you may even be able to get away with not removing the rack at all.

I've tried pulling the carpet back ,but it's glued down to the panels. Do I need to remove the bolt that the seats latch to so I can get to the shocks?

Not the carpet on the panels, the carpet that is laying flat needs to come up. Under the carpet will be a piece of foam, under that is the top of the shock.
