bad brakes (feel soft and underpowered)
bad brakes (feel soft and underpowered)
I've been told that F-body brakes aren't the best in the world. I have an 87 Formaula with WS6 (although before the change to the larger discs). The brakes have always been poor; I've checked all the obvious things such as calipers and changed the brake fluid and pads (but only basic semi-met pads).
I've had problems with it pulling to one side, but that seemed to be a blocked flexible brake hose on a front wheel -although it's started up again, so I'm wondering if it's the other side now!
The Disc Rotors do have fine lines around them, that can be felt when you run your fingers round them; will this affect the braking efficiency significantly? (the car was imported from Canada to the UK, so I was wondering whether excess salt corrosion might be the cause??)
I've only got limited suppliers being in the UK such as JC Whitney and Carparts.com
I've seen drilled/slotted brake rotors on sale in JC Whitney -would these make a great deal of difference on the front over the standard type?
I currently have semi-metallic pads.
Would the TITANIUM ti22 performance pads be much better?
As I don't have a huge budget
I'm not sure whether to go for performance pads and discs (as I do need good brakes) or whether one or the other will make a bigger change? -or to go for standard discs and performance pads? -the dilemma is driving me crazy!!! -help PLEASE!!!
I'm just trying to avoid a situation where there's not the slightest difference after I've changed them.
I don't think the rotors have ever been changed and the car has done about 65,000 miles.
Any help is appreciated!
thanks
Andrew
