Binding issues?
Hey all,
why is it that you can buy a non-adjustable set of LCAs and Panhard rod for a stock rear end with no issue, but the moment you put a Ford 9" in they talk about potential binding issues? What is a binding issue, tech noob here?
My 82 has a Ford 9" in it, and everyone is recommending a single adjustable type of combo. Why is that? That mean the non-adjustable type is a gamble for fit?
Just for knowledge
Thanks all.

Hello,
Binding in the rear suspension is when a softer rubber bushing is replaced by a stiffer bushing such as polyurethane, delrin or other hard material. As the suspension tries to travel or articulate the firmer bushing won't let it, this then applies pressure to the bushing mounts and binds the suspension.
Although binding is a major issue in the suspension there are certain times when you are okay to use polyurethane bushings. If the car is more of a straight line car with minimal handling the polyurethane bushings would be fine. And since they are firmer they do not deflect as easy which helps with traction.
When people mention single adjustable they are referring to an item that would have a rod end on one end and a poly bushing on the other. The rod end allows the suspension to move some as the poly bushing absorbs the shock. Here is a link to what I am referring to- www.umiperformance.com/2016
Since you are installing a 9" rear end I would recommend adjustable control arms to make sure the the rear end is centered under the car. Depending on the brand of the rear end this is a must in some cases.
If you need help deciding what is best for your application please give us a description on how you drive the vehicle, what you are planning to use it for and your current suspension modifications. I will be glad to make some recommendations off of that.
Hope that helps!
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I actually ordered the single adjustable's a little while back from you folks, great product, look forward to getting them on the car. I just wondered why they were essential for the most part over the non-adjustable types. I do believe you helped me with that selection personally.
Thanks for helping me with my questions!
