Would 2 (Stock) Front Wheels Be OK on back of car?
I've been trying to decide if I should buy 2 used front wheels for my car so that I can rotate the tires like normal people. I got new tires at Sears, and they do it free (along with balance) for normal cars, but want to charge me lots o' $$$$ for my car because of the added labor. They charge about $20 per wheel!!!!!
It pisses me off 'cause they originally told me (when I bought the tires) that there would be no charge, even after I told them how the wheels are. At that price I could easily buy a good set of used front wheels with the 0 offset.
I've read in the tech section that you can swap a wider 4th gen rear end with the added 2" and still use the stock rims, so it should work with just the decreased back spacing, right? Would having front wheels on the back (stock rear end, not 4th gen) clear?
Aren't the backs 16mm offset? That only works out to be about 5/8", right? Will that only take away 5/8" on the backspacing? Then they should only stick out 5/8" farther than the 16mm offset ones, right? So why wouldn't it work?
I believe I would still have to use the stock shims between the drums and wheels, right? But would it clear the ridge on the quater panels? It really wouldn't be any different than buying aftermarket wheels with the same back spacing all the way around, right?
Thanx for any input/suggestions,
AJ

Front 16" wheels will work fine on the back and only stick out 5/8" more, like you say, which will not be noticable and still well under the fenders. I'd do it in a minute if I could find a pair of early front GTA wheels for a reasonable price.

The dipsh!ts at Sears already tried that.
Car no go with back wheels on front. They rub against (more like completely bind up) the damn struts. The moron tried backing out my car like that. I just about killed him once I saw what he was doing!!!!!!! Lucky for him I got my wife and kids to think about!!!! Thanks though. I guess now at least we know what not to do.
I was talking about buying a set of used front wheels (the Zero Offset ones) to put on the back along with the original fronts on the front. I guess I don't understand why the General didn't just do that. I guess they wanted the front traking think. I just wanted some confirmation that it'll work. Thanks everyone,
AJ
