Sub frame

Howdy I have a question for you camaro guys about sub frame width and roughly what the track width is, reason being is I am thinking of using the stock camaro suspenion on my old straight axle truck. I don't know that the year of camaro is thiers kinda another viechle on top but I can get at all the front end stuff with ease since thiers no engine thier . And one last question the cars that were equipped with abs the abs will work with out any of the abs stuff hooked up?, I know of some old abs not working when the abs malfunctioned on other viechles so I'm asking.

Thanks for the replies time isn't of the essence since I work all week 6-7 days aweek, so will be awhile before I'm back at the car again.

Re: Sub frame

No ABS in any Thirdgen, so you are safe there.

You do realize that Thirdgen's don't have a separate subframe, right?

I think the width is about 72"

Re: Sub frame

It is the front subframe, you are correct there. Just was making sure you know that Thirdgens aren't like 1st and 2nd gens where the front subframe bolts to the rest of the body, in a Thirdgen it is welded.

What width exactly are you looking for? From inside of strut tower to inside of strut tower?

Re: Sub frame

the frame itself too find out if it's narrower or wider than my frame and how much the difference is I'd like to get rid of my old straight axle... and no power steering, drum brakes on a 5000 pound truck, fabricating stuff isn't an issue I got steel and a welder just doing my research before I dive into a project and spent money and it won't work well.

Re: Sub frame

I'd look for something more suitable to start with than a thirdgen's modified MacPherson suspension on its welded-in subframe.
