I have an '85 Iroc and here lately whenever I am turning the wheels and going over bumps in the road, there is this horrible poping noise from the frontend. Just a single pop, not a rattle or anything. I have been thinking maybe balljoints? I checked them for wear like the manual said, but couldn't really tell. I have replaced my sway bar bushings so I know it isn't there. All the tir rods feel tight and not wobbly. Could the problem even be coming from the steering column? I need help bad, because I think it is getting worse and it is quite annoying to hear it, sounds like something is gonna break or is broken.

Ball joints, tie rod ends or wheel bearings. Have it checked out properly before something falls off.

 

Check your strut tower bearings,that's what was wrong with mine.

 

check around the steering box for cracks on the frame. That will cause a pop and sloppy steering depoending on the severity of the crack(s)
