replacing lug studs

I have to replace my lug studs with longer ones to fit some aftermarket wheels and wanna know what's the best way to remove and install them. Chilton says to press the ones on the front out but I've heard that you can hammer them out them back in. Anyone with experience in doing this?

i used a press. make sure you buy replacement studs that are slightly over sized and not the same size as factory or it'll be loose.
