Yes, you'll have to grind down the "flange" as you call it on the top of the strut.
I don't know if Racecraft makes their kit in house or if they use Afco sleeves. But if they use Afco sleeves (I'm pretty sure they do, but I'm not 100% positive) I think you'll need to turn down the inner diameter of the sleeves, because they are still a fraction of an inch too small to fit over the lakewoods.
I tried doing this (With Afco's and Lakewoods) and that's what my measurements with a micrometer told me. It was only a few thousandths of an inch, but just enough that they wouldn't fit if I remember correctly. But I don't have the exact measurements anymore

Well, don't grind too far obviously 
And be sure to keep the strut rod well protected, scratches in that will really shorten their life.
But yes, it's safe to grind the "lip" down
