I have an 91' RS 'vert with a 305 TBI. It has the stock aircleaner but it will soon sport a 2nd snorkel in the front to connect to a 2.8 v6 Camaro airbox. My question is what kind ( and brand ) of STB to use? I'm not sure if a TBI one will still fit. Could I use a TPI piece? If I have remove the brace to get the lid off thats OK with me ( still easier than changing plugs! ) but the car does have the taller truck lid.

I would recommend getting a three point brace (mine's from Edelbrock). The TPI one apparently has several more inches of clearance under it, but this makes it more expensive. For the amount of rigidity it adds to the car, you should consider adding the brace, then modifying you air intake set-up to accommodate it. It really is worth it.

88 IROC with cobbled together (not by me)drivetrain, 86 (?) TPI unit,CE subframe connectors, Edelbrock strut tower brace, polygraphite bushings all around...it handles like a dream, but man is it hard to push!!

I just measured. There is enough room under the Edelbrock TBI STB for an oval or rectangular tube 2" X 4.5" or so from the air cleaner to the front. I went straight beside the serpentine belt tensioner to just above the thermostat housing. It should be enough clearance I would think.
