Suggestions for front drag wheel/tire combo?...
Suggestions for front drag wheel/tire combo?...
I've used search already and can't find what I'm looking for. Would appreciate any suggestions....
I would like a lightweight, but streetable, wheel/tire combo for the front of my '91 Camaro. I have stock disc brakes on the front. I'm willing to go with either a 15" or 16" front wheel (I think Weld now makes 16" pro-stars?) This is not a road-race car; it is a street car that sees considerable drag racing action. I run Sportsman Pros on the back, so handling is not a priority. I would prefer a radial tire on the front, since I will probably be going to a big set of drag radials on the back for the street, and buying a dedicated set of slicks for the track.
What is the experience of the forum? Is a 15X4 too narrow for the street? What wheel width would work best? I think a width of six inches is the widest that I'd consider.
What size tire should I use? I've looked at 205/65/15, which is about 25" tall, and I think it would go on a 15X5. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help,
RSR

You would be better off with the wider tire on the 5 or 6 inch wheel. The narrow tires give you almost no traction for braking and since your front end does most of the braking don't risk wrecking your car for the almost no advantage you'd get by running small tires. Think about when it rains. Still go for the light wheels just go a little bigger on the tires.
4 inch weld drag lites and m/t front runners here. i also removed all sway bars so it doesnt take curves too good but hey i built the car to go straight
