Bendix Pads
Bendix Pads
Bendix offers 2 front pads for our cars. I was comparing them side by
side tonight at auto barn.
one is there standard "titanium metallic" pad.
the other is a heavy duty fleet pad called "Met lok" $15 more than
standard pads.
The standard pads are riveted, and the heavy duty pads are bonded. I
would have thought the opposite??? I always thought heavy duty
applications are riveted?? But I guess that ain't so.
Also the standard pad seems to have more surface area than the heavy duty
pad. not much, but it is noticeable when comparing them side by side. I
hear surface area don't matter much, although it seems better to have
more surface area.
The heavy duty pads comes with stick on shims, while the standard pad
came with nothing.
any comments on Bendix? I brought the heavy duty pads to go road racing
with.
Before the Bendix, I stopped at pepboys for raybestos brute stop pads,
and they offer 8 different pads for our cars. (not including 1LE pads).
Totally ridluous. standard, 1 up from standard, low dust, ceramic
metallic, lifetime pads, etc, etc. I can't even remember the other ones.
all they had was the low line standard crap for $17.99. I walked out.
Larry
please no recommendations for PF pads. I tried them and they don't work
on the street in cold weather..

I can only comment on the Bendix pads I bought for my S-10 many years ago. They were lifetime warranty, and I even sent in the little card and got the certificate back in the mail. Like I said, that was several years ago, and these damn pads are phenomenal. They always stop good, and just won't seem to wear out. I've swapped them over to my third S-truck so far, and they're probably only 1/3 of the way worn down. I'd guess they have about 50K miles on them now. I'm not sure what's going to last longer, the pads or the rotors!
