How to Replace Idler Arm ?

I've been searching archives and so forth, but no one says how to replace an idler arm. I need one for inspection apparently, and the inspectoin mechanic said it's easy to install a new one : "You just need a 9/16 inch wrench". Is it really that easy ? Do I need to get it up on jack stands? I have ramps, and of course, a jack, but that's it.

SOunds like I just get an idler arm from AutoZOne, "unbolt" the old one and bolt on the new one ? Is it that easy ? My mech charged me $100 to replace an idler arm on my Chevy.... I guess he's a slow worker... ?

Thanks

Its pretty easy. I think you need a pickle fork to break the joint. I dont think you need to support iit in any specific way

You need a 15mm wrench, 15mm socket on a 6" extension, whatever size the nut is where it hooks to the center link (somewhere about ¾"), and a pickle fork. Usually you need an alignment afterwards.

I'd do them all day long (well, for a few days anyway) for $100, and I'm not even a mechanic. I don't know anything about cars at all and that's one I can handle.

Hate to sound like an a$$, but unbolt the old one and put the new one on. It's really pretty simple. R&R remove and replace. Just try to get it in a position where the center link is level to the ground. Use a level. And you might want to check other suspension and steering points while your at is.
