Brakes, Noises!?

my brakes (brand new pads) used to sqeak a little... no big deal.. no they make a realy weird noise... like something is draging... the lines arnet collasped. they dont stick.. just make a weird noise... since its not garaged i just figured the rain made them rust a little and then it made the noise... what else could it be? or is it normal?

I just chased a noise from my car. I developed a metallic grating noise that was present when moving. It made a different sound when driving slowly in reverse than forward. I thought it might be the brake pads. I checked the pads and found them all OK. Then I noticed a shiny band on the driveshaft and determined that was where the noise was coming. I found that the emergency brake cable had come free from the notch where it rests The e-brake cable on the passenger side had jumped free of the guide on the body allowing the center adjusting rod to make contact with the driveshaft. I have the older (pre 88) style rear disc brakes I swapped into my car.
