changing motor mounts with motor in car...
when i put my new motor in i didnt put y new motor mounts in. i basically was just being lazy and didnt want to deal with taking the old ones off. i am now kickin myself in the *** over this. how hard of a job is it to do without taking the motor out? i know this is a pretty stupid question, but i really have no experience in motor mounts at all. i plan on using the ES poly mounts. the reason that i want to do this is because my SLP headers are hitting the steering column, and i want to put a stop to it asap. thanks.

Use a bent 15mm wrench (might have to weld an extender rod on end for some) to get at the nuts in the frame. Lift motor a little to gain access to get upper bolts. Curse, swear heavily while trying to loosen and not loose parts in frame. Installation is reverse.

If you like your hands and would like to keep them I wouldn't recommend changing the mounts with the engine in place. You would go down in one of those Darwin Awards postings.

Changing motor mounts with the engine in is not a big deal. Maybe good for a few hours if you have never done it before.
There is no real reason to take the engine out. Just make sure it is well supported so it doesn't fall.
I think that pulling an engine out is much more difficult than just bending a wrench and loosening a few bolts.

I changed mine to the ES ones with the motor in the car. I did pull out the dist though. I did not want it bending on the firewall as I jacked up the motor.

z28 boy, I guess you didn't want to sell me those bushings .
When I changed the mounts it wasn't too bad but that was without the motor in. It isn't a big deal because the mounts are really simple and the only hard thing to get to is the nuts in the frame.
