Loud Front end tapping?????????????

The other day I started to hear a very loud tapping/popping noise from my driver side front wheel area that increased with speed up to a certain point. It does it while turning slow and sometimes when going slow and stright. I got out today and had my dad turn the wheels while the car was sitting still and it made the tapping/popping noise then too. Couldn't see anything out of the ordinary under car or near the wheels itself. What could it be? Bearings?

I'm gonna guess and say it's the bearings or the front suspension. I have an '88 with 150,xxx on it and it does the same thing. I can't get mine aligned 'cause the front end and bearings are so worn. Mine also jerks when I back out of parking spots and when I turn it to lock on either side. Have that problem? When you had your dad "turn the wheels", do you mean the steering wheel with the car on the ground or did you lift the front and spin the wheel in the air? Could be the steering box too but my bet is on the suspension and bearings.

Nice ride, too.

You probably haven't seen me, I havent' been driving my 88 much because it's getting to be a chore to drive with the brakes and suspension being so loose. I also recently moved to Fort Mill, SC.

How did the fix go?
