Are front and rear calipers the same?

I have to get new rear calipers since mine are shot. Anyway I went to the local parts store and told them what i needed. My car is a 91 RS but the rear is from an 86 IROC. The problem is that the caliper he gave me looks just like the ones on the front. What I'd like to know is if there is an easy way to tell them apart before I start to change them. Thanks for the help.
