Baer Braking Systems

Is anyone using one of their front systems and and what size (12 or 13 inch rotors) are you using.

Also FYI, Baer sells a rear drum to disc conversion for our cars, about time!

I'm using the front Track system from Baer. Did you have any questions or just taking a poll?

Steve

EDIT: I suck - I'm using the 13" rotors with aftermarket Mercedes rims.

They (Baer) are usually a little slow to respond to e-mails for some reason. But the wait is well worth it. If you need a faster answer, just call them. They will send you a template to trial fit your wheels for clearance. The guy I dealt with was Bill Koppinger and was nothing but helpful. Each system is going to be set up to your needs/budget and is more or less custom. You should call and talk to someone if you're serious about buying an upgrade, reguardless of who you buy from. Do your homework, the difference in the car will be worth the effort. I used the 12" SS setup ft & rear with options. They look almost as good as they work =) and they look awesome.

Is it true that with their 4 piston Alcon setup the spindles will need to be changed? I've either seen that on this board or it came to me in a dream .

I think the spindles get changed/altered with any of their systems because of the larger diameter of the rotors. Just about any increase in rotor size forces you to modify the spindles. I think Baer builds most ,if not all, of their 3rd gen system on modified spindles and use hubless rotors. If you send your old spindles back to them you get $150 core charge back. They have different caliper brackets depending on what diameter rotors you want. I think you can get 12, 13 and maybe 14" rotors depending on how deep your pockets are.... not sure about 14's though.

To fit the Track system into my 16" Centerlines I would need a 1/2" spacer. I really do not want to use a spacer. Has anyone used a spacer and how did you like the wheel being moved out or did Baer make the spindle 1/2" offset inward to couter the spacer?

The spindles I got from Baer actually moved the wheels out about 3/4"-1" farther apart. It didn't affect handling noticeably, but I get a little tire squeal at full lock. This really only happens at parking lot speeds so it doesn't mean much. I had heard others say that they got the same ~1/2 more width per side too, but with the factory wheels everything still fits fine. You might be fine with the spacing you have if the centerlines have a little more offset than you really need.
