ok, first of all what are the differences in the two. aren't the 89 calipers aluminum and the rotor 1 inch larger in diameter? also, what is needed for this conversion and is it worth it?

You will need:

Calipers (yes they are Al)
Backing plates
Anchors (the caliper mounts to this)
Rotors (yes they are bigger)
I think that you can reuse your ebrake cables.

Its an entirly different setup i believe. There is a tech article on this.

 

E brake cables are different too.Do a search on 1LE upgrade or 1LE brakes,something along that line.All the info and part numbers needed are here just have to be found on the archives.I have all my part numbers somewhere from when I upgraded,I will look for them if you want,just email me.All the info needed is here just do a search.Very worthwhile upgrade,one of the best mods I have done up to this point with my Z.

If the p.v. is square shaped and made of extruded aluminum it should be OK.

Revised list of what you will need:

Calipers
Backing plates
Anchors (the caliper mounts to this)
Rotors
E-brake cables
Hard brake line (that attaches to the differential)

You may need to swap the emergency brake cable lever mechanism also. I went the other way (90 drum to 88 disc) only because I had one on hand. I had to swap e-brake handle assemblies. Also make sure your Brake Master Cylinder is a "A50" not a "A65". This number is cast into the bottom side of the master cylinder.

Yes you will need a new proportioning valve for the 89+up system.And yes the rear hard lines are different on the new system also.

is it possible to just upgrade to the larger rotors and reuse the 88 calipers by buying 1LE backing plates? (this is on a 9-bolt)
