C5 brakes on 3rd gens?????
I found this site while doing a search. I know a few guys out there have talked about doing this kind of upgrade but has anyone actually done it yet? This may be yet another option to 1LEs, Baer, etc.
This guy installed the system on a late 80s Monte Carlo SS B-body, the spindle looks so damn close it just may work...

Very interesting.. thanks for the link.
We actually have an advantage over those guys, don't we? If we use the 1LE rotors, it would be just as good as their homemade-hub and C5 rotor, right?

Back in the "Temporary 1LE board", it was said that the vette calipers are nearly identical to the 1LE ones. Did the 1LE package come with 17" wheels? I've just got IROC 16s, I hope I'm not SOL.

I think the 1LE calipers are the same as C4 Corvette calipers. 1LEs came with 16 inch wheels. This post is about C5 brakes which I think would require a 17 incher.
That guy is pretty brilliant. He made a hub to put on the spindle to put the rotor onto. Our rotors just go onto the spindle.

You would probably need 17 inch wheels to clear the caliper if using the C5 rotor. www.electro-dynamics.com makes C5 conversions for the C4 Corvettes, and they require 17 inch wheels. Their website has photos of the conversions.

Electro-Dynamics is willing to make a conversion for the C5 calipers and rotors for the Third Gen vehicles, and make it available as they have for the C4s. Can someone supply them with a right front upright/spindle and rotor to be machined for development? You can email them at: tech@electro-dynamics.com

I have done a similar upgrade on my wifes Fiero. It cost me $30 at the local machine shop to have the rotor lathed into a hub. I will donate the left and right spindle if someone will Paypal me the dough for shipping. Those things aren't exactly light.

Wow this is old...
I think it's too hairy of a mod to do economically. It's easy to do to a 'Vette and even a 4th gen (http://www.nashvillespeed.com/) but just too much effort IMO for us 3rd genners.

yeah it is old, vette brakes is suppose to have a kit completed sometime soon so i was curious if anyone else had ran into any more info.
they seem to be the set that most companies are trying to duplicate now.

I have been planning a NON-HD (12 inch brakes) C4 brake swap on my car forever, which will fit stock rims. I am getting C4 brakes for Christmas from the junk yard or eBay. For more info check out this post:

and a older post I made with some good info about C4 and C5 brakes

i don't know.......seems like alot of work to not just pay the 800 for a baer setup without the hassles.
definately sounds like an idea though and for those who would rather make something it sure looks possible.

even cheaper depending on what options and size you want.
it's all about the options and knowing where to get the deals. or you could go to their website and pay their 1200 price.
do you pay the msrp at a dealership when buying a car?
