Re: size of nut on pitman arm

Put a small ruler up against it to measure from a flat to opposite flat.

I love Harbor Freight (if you have one close by) for these things - can get great cheap tools there for these odd minimal use jobs - and save the cash for really nice daily use tools from better makers.

Re: size of nut on pitman arm

I just took one off an '88 GTA; 1 5/16" and Harbor Freight doesn't have one. AutoZone had one for about $7-8 (less than half the price of Sears) and Tractor Supply has an even cheaper one. Bad news - it's 3/4" drive so off to HF to get a 3/4" breaker bar ($17 - 20% discount coupon). I also used a 2' cheater pipe and it came off smooth as butter (160 ft-lbs).

Re: size of nut on pitman arm

i have to check tommorow, but its actually 33mm IIRC (maybe 32?), its defiantly metric. its a bit odd, but most auto parts stores have the large sockets. got on at autozone recently.

*edit*

checked one of my old threads, its 33mm

I just measured mine by vernier caliper and it is indeed 33 mm. 1 5/16"
will work but it's loose.
This also may be of interest after the nut is off and the second adventure begins:

Re: size of nut on pitman arm

yeah, you need the puller too. again, most auto stores have the cheap ones, they will work. not sure how may times after the first time they will work before they break, but once is usually enough.
