Rear shock absorber blew threw the florr
Rear shock absorber blew threw the florr
i have an 83 z28 camaro and i was hearing a loud banging noise in the passengers side rear tire so i took the tire off and noticed that my shock absorber bottom bolt was loose, i tigheten it up and called it a day, but i still noticed i had the noise so i inspected everything only to find my shock absorber had gone threw the floor boards in the truck area the actual shock sleeve slid down and was causing the noise and the top part went threw the floor, does anyone know a quick fix to this problem?

Yeah they'll all do that sooner or later. Happened to my car at about 250,000 miles. Hardly even all the way broken in yet and already the shocks punched the floor pan out.
I try to tell people that think they're going to use air shocks to raise the car, that it won't work; nobody believes me, until .... what happened to you, happens to them.
Take the shocks and the back seta & carpet out, and go to the auto parts store and buy 4 GIGANTIC "fender" washers with the same inner diameter as the hole in the floor used to be (seems like it was either 5/8" or ¾" but if you still have the piece you can just measure it), and take it to a muffler shop or other place where they weld all the time, and have em weld 2 washers on each side; one on the interior, one on the exterior.
Put new shocks on it at the same time, you won't BELIEVE how much better your car rides.

I took a large washer and welded it in on the interior side. Then I removed the metal that I could on the bottom side that looked like a smashed up pop can so it wouldn't rub on the shock. Find a washer that is big enough at your local hardware parts store. I can't remember if I welded a smaller washer onto the larger washer to make there be a smaller hole.

Had that happen to me on a 57 chevy,we used a nice piece of angle iron under the car for both air shocks, turned out OK.

THis is not a 57 Chevy. What works on one of those, won't necesarily work on one of these.

washers would work just fine, or you can fabricate a new plate to fill the shape of the mount, top and bottom, and weld them in for a little more strength.

But it could work,right.
Get up under your car and LOOK AT IT before suggesting things that won't work to people who need help.
