Spring copmressor on broken spring???
Going to be rebuilding my front end next week and have been reading up on sugestions on the safest/best way to remove the springs/ a arms. Was going to get a spring compressor to have on hand when I tackle this job, but the spring on the drivers side is broken. Is this safe to put a compressor on a broken spring or am I better off putting a saftey chain on the non broken part and slowly lowering it down?

i would still use the compressor on the unbroken spring, but depending on where the spring's broken on the other side, you may not need it for the bad one. but you should definitely use a safety chain on both, just for that added protection - these things are under serious tension and not worth risking a set of teeth over

A few years ago an oldtimer saw me eyeing a compressor at at swap meet. After chuckling for a moment, he asked what kind of dental plan I had.
