was just wondering what everyone thought?
i would think that it would just induce a lot of over steer right?

Not if the suspension is setup properly and doing it's job properly..
I guess it could be. If you didnt have shocks or springs and just welded everything together so it didnt move, yeah it would be "too stiff"

Ever drive a demolition derby car on the street with welded shocks? Its not fun.

On a solid rear axle car, too much rear roll stiffness can lead to excess oversteer.
As for the chassis itself, it can't be too stiff.
Springs & shocks can be.

hmm..i see..i mean like..for a street/autox setup? as a whole, can a car be TOO rigid to the point where it tracks like **** and just oversteers and slides?
what do you man by stiff? if the suspension is too stiff, the car will suck, it will slide and ride really poorly. If the chassis, structurally is really stiff, thats rarely a bad thing. Less deflection in the chassis mean more precise and predictable suspension performance
i meant the chassis/structural rigidity of the car..ie subframe connectors, wonderbars, strut tower braces, roll bars etc..is there a point in which its just over kill?

it will only "hurt" the weight of the car. But if you keep those parts light and well designed, and reduce weight elsewhere as you can, there will be few disadvantages. Keep in mind, with a full roll cage, you dont need 3 sets of subframe connectors, and you may not need a STB if you incorporate the cage to the strut towers.Originally Posted by itsMikey

i have bmr sfc's, umi wonder bar and a bmr strut tower brace as well as all the supporting suspension mods..just trying to determine whether an 8point roll bar would be a good/bad thing for my setup? cuz i want the increased rigidity as well the aesthetic improvement of a roll bar..

Aesthetic improvement should never be the reason for installing roll protection. It takes a lot of research to properly install a roll bar or cage in a car that is street driven while keeping it safe. Bump your head on a bar in a parking lot collision and you'll be getting coloring books for the rest of your life. If you aren't going to install the cage yourself you need to have a qualified professional that understands safety and street use with roll bars do the work for you. Originally Posted by itsMikey

For our applications, the chassis can't ever be too stiff, but I doubt you really need a roll bar. It's adding weight you don't need unless you're racing and need the protection, or unless you've got a fixed racing seat and harnesses installed.

Aesthetic improvement? As has already been mentioned, roll bars are not for looks. Quite frankly they are a huge pain, and should only be considered if needed.
could always build the legendary PVC roll bar.... if we are looking for aesthetics
