Track bar removal

Hey All,

I am having troubles removing the bolts for the track bar and track bar brace, the nuts are off, but the bolts are seized in position. What can I do to get there bolts out. I have used release-all today but I don't expect that to work

On the other side, the nut is seized on the bolt, tried release-all 3-4 times, with a long breaker bar 24+ inches. I have heated to the nut with a MAPP torch with no joy.

Any hints....

thanks

Paul

torch, sawzall. they will have to be cut out and replaced. the bolts tend to sieze to the steel liners of the bushings and dont come out.

Try any impact tools on them yet?

what works somtimes to remove the bolts, is to beat the snot out of the threaded side to break them loose, you destroy the bolt, but it will sometimes break it free of the sleave.

Re: Track bar removal

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried to beat the crap out of it, but it has beaten me....

Cutting the bolts is an option for the track bar as I have another one on order, but the track bar brace is a different story.

How to cut the bolt without destroying the part?? and the brackets??

The bolts commonly used for these, are they strong like seat belt bolts??

Re: Track bar removal

the bolts are all grade 10.9, they are hard bolts.

the upper track bar will be hard to get the bolt out without ruining it. you can always get a new/used one i suppose.

have you tried air tools?

the panhard bolts are stepped bolts, the shaft is thicker than the threaded part, these are dealer only parts, or Spohn sells them too.

I will try my impact tools, but not sure what their rating is. I seldom use them, working in my home garage and my compressor is very noisy, I only like to disturb the neighbourhood with a cherry bomb.

Re: Track bar removal

i have had the same problem many times over the years on many different parts/cars/acft. . before getting out the sawzall or cutting torch . try an impact on less than high . just yet it rattle away , for as much as 10 mins. . i am reminded about a leaf spring i tried to remove from a 2nd. gen camaro . it took 1 brew & 2 cigs of steady rattleing but it came loose . whatever you do , good luck . ( lot's of pent. oil & reverse impact several times ) .

Re: Track bar removal

after all said an done.

PB Blaster loosened the nuts for all my issues. I was sold on Release-all but PB Blaster did the trick.

I cut the track bar out, as I have a replacement, will be hack-sawing the track bar brace bolts out.
