Still hoppin'

My car developed a terrible wheel hop problem after i put a powertrax no-slip locker in it (which i LOVE btw). And so i bought some lca's and a panhard rod from founders performance and UMI lca relocation brackets. Other than that my suspension is all stock, with 6 month old monroe rear shocks. The parts i ordered did seem to help a bit, but i still cant get on the torque converter and launch it like i want to at the track or it will wheel hop like crazy. Anybody got any suggestions? Right now the lca's are in the 3rd hole (lowest). I havent had time to try the middle hole yet to see if maybe that would help.

Re: Still hoppin'

Do you have Sub frame connectors? If not you need them , flex is a big problem. What kind of shape are you stabiliser links in? I'd replace them w/ poly urethanes.
I'd definitely take off the relocation brackets and test the car, any difference? Better or worse? If worse put them back on, but start at first adjustment.
Also check torque arm bushing at trans, probably worn and soft, most are. If so replace w/ poly urethane unit. Check trans mount also, again, same as above.
When doing suspension mods always do one at a time, then move to the next. If it were me I'd go back to square one, test, install the next part, test, etc....

Id say this is a good start along with playing with the relocating brackets and rear springs.

I dont have subframe connectors. I was thinking of getting some though. My end links are polyurathane. And the wheel hop was way worse when i didnt have the relocation brackets. I broke a trans mount last time i was at the track and replaced it with just a stock rubber one. Never thought about the torque arm mount, i wonder if that would make a difference

The tires are bf goodrich g-force sports, with still a lot of life left. 255/50/16. I want to get some drag radials and just put the bf's on the front. And yea i was thinking about getting some better shocks. I bought those back when i was still in school and didnt have much money. They were in desperate need of replacing lol

Re: Still hoppin'

The torque arm mount is very important, SFC's will really help the car, as will some real shocks....

Re: Still hoppin'

I've said this before- these cars DO NOT wheel hop if something isn't broken or loose. I've had people argue with me about this, swore to me that they checked the car up and down, and in the end I've always found _something_ that was broken or worn out causing the problem. It's not because you didn't buy the right shocks, or that you still have stock or stock replacement type parts or lack of subframe connectors (though I would believe subframe connectors if the car has been beat to hell and not in great shape, and I've seen an aftermarket PHR help wheel hop on a 1-2 shift, but that's a different problem).

I guarantee anyone telling you "I had the worst wheel hop till I swapped in {insert whatever aftermarket part}" actually fixed/tightened something else in the swap process that fixed the problem.

Oh, and LCA brackets _will_ make it worse unless you have a soft sidewall to absorb the harder hit the tires take.

Re: Still hoppin'

SFC's will help any of our cars they are old and full of flex, I still say the torque arm mount is probably the problem. All of the aftermarket stuff I mentioned will do nothing but help, the situation of wheel hop and poor traction. These cars do wheel hop when you put some real power to them versus, the smogged out POS engines they came with, it's because of flex in the body and driveline, these cars were not designed to handle anything over 250HP. The LCA brackets can definitely be a problem if not setup properly.
The car is not stock, he's got a built engine and a true noslip posi in it he needs to get something better than rubber mounts, especially on the torque arm....

Really? Ive never heard that. I read a bunch of posts on thirdgen as well as other sites to try and figure out how to make it stop wheel hopping and everyone said LCA brackets made a huge difference in traction

Yea my old 305 tbi never had a problem with wheel hop haha. I plan to be pushing 450 or more rwhp by next year but i gotta get this damn wheel hop figured out. And by that time my rear end is gonna blow haha, oh well

How do i know my LCARB's are set up properly? I welded them on myself and everything looked good to me. The lca's are sitting a little lower in the back than the front, whereas before they were tilted slightly upwards

So you think i need something like this? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-3-1111G/ If that doesnt work ill have to try SFC's

Re: Still hoppin'

Did you check your torque arm mount? If it's soft worn/torn, etc. The summit replacement part will work just fine. It's better than the stock rubber piece either way. You should really inspect it....
