Whats the best struts and suspension for my application?

So my 86 Trans Am is my daily driver... The suspension is shot... I am going to replace it. I plan on beefing up the engine and muscling up the car but I want it to do more than go in a straight line. I want the car to handle well. I want to get suspension components that will allow me comfort for my daily driving while pursuing performance... Any recomandations? I am going to be replacing struts, bushings/worn out parts. Any recomendations?

Replacing your struts and shocks made a HUGE difference. I just finished installing front and rear Tokico HPs struts/shocks on my 92 RS. I really like the ride now. The car handles and break a LOT better. They aren't extremely expensive and Tokico also has the Illuma series which is adjustable for different driving situations too. You can make it stiffer or softer if you want.

If you want to go higher end, some people go with Konis, while KYBs are on the lower end.

For bushings, go with polyurethane all the way!

For shocks...Koni, Tokico, Billstein, KYB in that order would be your best bets. Just depends on your budget and weather or not you need adjustability. Unless you are going to be hitting a bunch of track days or autocrosses, you probably won't need an adjustable damper.

The shock and strut advice above is pretty solid. Chicane's order of things is a good start. Keep in mind even a lowly KYB will be a ton better than worn out stockers.

Poly bushings will tighten things up as will perhaps an increase in rear sway bar size and a set of subframe connectors.

Good luck with your project and let us know how UMI can help achieve your performance goals.

That helps me a lot. Thanks for the help. Tokico HP struts it is. And I will search around to see where I can find the PolyUreathane bushings. I will see if I can find them in a whole front end kit/rebuild Kit.
