KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

Going to order them today bc thats all I can afford, are they any good? I have read that some people like them and some people don't. My suspension is completely stock. 220,000 mile car. Suspension ain't in the best shape, but all of the bushings and front steering components were all replaced around 4 or 5 yrs ago. Are they any better than monroe sensa trac or gas adjust. All I use it for is DD and throw it around turns occasionally.

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

yes, GR-2. Much much better than stock. That is what I currently have on my 91 RS the struts and shocks. Such a better ride compared to new cheap crap you get from the local part house. Although you can get these from the local part house they are ALOT better. I would recommend them to anyone without the means of getting a set of nicer struts/shocks such as the Koni's

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

KYB GR-2 struts up front and KYB Gas-adj shocks in the rear is the way to go. I have them on my 87 IROC-Z28 and like there performamce/cost.

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

According to a recent post by UMI KYB released their damping specs for the GR-2's.

Its roughly 15% stiffer than a stock WS6 shock/strut.

I have them on my car and I have very little bodyroll but the ride is rather stiff. This is combined with stiffer than stock springs though.

Harshness is a subjective measurement. I'm really tolerant of it, but less so of squeaks/rattles.

As long as the handling isn't compromised by being too stiff I'd deal with it.

I'll put it this way. Taking a lady out on a date in my car would probably not please her unless she actually likes sports cars.

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

Well I'm the only 1 that rides in my car bc everyone else is scared to ride with me lol. And the way my car is, you feel every bump in the road, so I'm used, I can't stand squeaks and rattles, which the passenger rear shock has been squeaking for about 2 or 3 years lol, to lazy to put shocks on it, till now. It has all new bushings in the rear.

Im considering some GR-2's as well as a few others right now. Have you had them installed? Do you like the ride?

thanks

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

The ride wouldn't be bad, its a little firm. But the typical creaks/moans/windnoise makes it seem so much worse than it is. I bought new weather stripping for the car, so that will take care of the wind noise hopefully, and SFC's should take care of most of the interior rattles.

I have had the KYB GR-2 & Gas-Adjust installed for over a year now and I have NO Complaints. With my other supension mods the 87 IROC-Z rides and feels like when it was new 25 years ago.

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

one point to note..

if you are lower than 1".. the GR2's wont control the springs very well, you need an almost stock ride height

my old car was 2" lowered and they blew out after 3 months..

Re: KYB AG-2 Rear Shocks

mine is stock height, and actually my old shocks weren't blown, they were just stiff as hell with rotted bushings
